A pool is not a prefab unit you drop into the garden — it's a structurally verified construction that must stay watertight for decades. At SB Bau-Sanierung we build indoor and outdoor pools from watertight reinforced concrete, from the pool shell through waterproofing and the technical room to the finished surroundings, including as an indoor pool with dehumidification and heat recovery.
Pool shell in watertight reinforced concrete
We build pool shells from class C25/30 watertight reinforced concrete, structurally calculated for the specific ground conditions and water load. Unlike prefab shells or liner pools on backfill, a reinforced concrete shell doesn't move with frost or ground movement — the most common cause of leaking pools within a few years.
Surfaces and equipment
Depending on the desired look and budget, we deliver liner, tiled or stainless-steel pools. The technical side includes filtration, a heat pump and, optionally, salt electrolysis instead of classic chlorination, for a more pleasant swimming experience and less maintenance.
Indoor pool with controlled climate
For an indoor pool, room climate is critical: without controlled dehumidification, condensation forms on walls and ceiling, causing long-term structural damage. We design the dehumidification system with heat recovery, so the energy evaporated from the water is returned to the building rather than simply lost outside.
Waterproofing and technical room
The technical room is designed so filters, pumps and the heat pump remain easily accessible for maintenance without digging up the entire pool surround. The shell's waterproofing is applied in multiple layers and tested with a multi-day water-level test before backfilling.
Surroundings: terrace, lighting and safety
The pool surroundings — terrace flooring, lighting, cover and, where required, fencing to applicable safety regulations — are designed as part of the same project, not as an afterthought. This way, levels, slopes and material transitions match from the start.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a reinforced concrete pool cost compared to a liner pool on backfill?
A watertight concrete shell costs more upfront but lasts decades without the leaks typical of prefab shells caused by ground movement and frost. Calculated over its lifespan, it's usually the more economical solution.
Can I use an outdoor pool in winter too?
With a heat pump and a suitable cover, an outdoor pool can be used through the shoulder-season months as well. For year-round use, we recommend an indoor pool with controlled dehumidification.
How long does it take to build a pool?
Depending on size, site accessibility and fittings, a pool project takes between 8 and 14 weeks, from excavation to commissioning.
What is salt electrolysis and is it worth it for me?
Salt electrolysis generates chlorine directly in the water from dissolved salt, so you don't need to store and dose chlorine products. The swimming experience is gentler on the skin, and maintenance drops noticeably.
How do you prevent condensation in an indoor pool?
We design a dehumidification system with heat recovery that controls air humidity and returns the energy evaporated from the water to the building instead of wasting it.
Do you also handle fencing to Austrian safety regulations?
Yes, we design and build the required pool-area protection as part of the overall project, in line with the applicable state-specific regulations.
How often does a concrete pool need maintenance?
The watertight reinforced concrete shell itself needs little maintenance. The technical systems (filter, pump) should be serviced annually, with salt-electrolysis systems requiring an additional check of the electrolysis cell.
Can I have an existing pool renovated instead of building a new one?
Yes, for leaking or outdated shells, we first assess whether renovation with new waterproofing is economically viable, or whether a new build is more cost-effective long-term.
What's the minimum pool size for a family of four?
For active swimming, we recommend at least 8 x 4 metres. For simple summer cooling off, more compact pools from 6 x 3 metres are sufficient.
What running costs come with a pool that has a heat pump?
Electricity costs depend on pool size, desired water temperature and usage duration. A modern heat pump runs far more efficiently than electric heating and usually pays for itself within a few seasons.
